About this Role

About Hartmore School

Hartmore School is a specialist SEND school for pupils aged 7–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with provisions across three sites in Gloucestershire.

Our vision is to help children with social, emotional and mental health needs to flourish through a carefully calibrated blend of nurture, structure and challenge. We create a place where pupils feel genuinely safe, and set small, sequential and achievable challenges that build their confidence, self-belief, self-worth and resilience, preparing them for the next phase of their lives.

We are an ambitious, values-led school that refuses to accept low expectations for our pupils, and we are at an exciting point in our development as we grow towards becoming a genuine centre of excellence for SEND provision.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead the quality of education across a growing specialist school, in a role that has been deliberately designed to let you focus on what you do best. As Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning, you will lead our curriculum, teaching, assessment, professional development and school improvement agenda across all provisions.

You will not be doing this alone. Our leadership structure has been designed so that a dedicated Assistant Head for Inclusion, SEND and Wellbeing holds responsibility for safeguarding, behaviour, pastoral care and pupil wellbeing; Provision Leads lead the day-to-day running of each site; and a School Business Manager oversees the operational side. That means you can concentrate fully on teaching, learning and staff development, working in close partnership with a strong and supportive leadership team, and reporting directly to the Executive Head.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an inspirational leader of teaching and learning who:

• holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has significant teaching and leadership experience

• has a proven track record of improving the quality of education and developing staff

• is committed to inclusive education and to maintaining high expectations for every pupil, regardless of starting point

• has both the expertise and the heart to help our children succeed and prepare for the next phase of their lives

Experience of SEND, SEMH or specialist provision is welcome but not essential. We will consider strong candidates from any school setting who share our vision and ambition.

What We Offer

A supportive, well-structured senior leadership team and a clear, focused remit.

• The chance to shape and lead the quality of education in a growing, ambitious school.

• A genuine commitment to your own professional development and progression.

• The opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to children who need it most.

Safeguarding

Hartmore School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with Children’s Barred List, and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
