7 Remote Jobs You Can Start Without a Degree

Data entry, moderation and virtual assistance

These roles are where legitimate work and scams sit closest together, so the filter matters as much as the search.

Genuine data entry pays roughly £11 to £14 an hour and is usually contracted through a named business with a registered address. Content moderation pays a little more, often £13 to £16, and comes with a genuine warning: the material can be distressing, and reputable employers say so up front in the advert.

Virtual assistant work is the most flexible and the most variable. Rates for UK-based assistants typically range from £15 to £25 an hour once you have two or three clients, but the first client is slow to find.

Red flags that reliably indicate a scam: payment for onboarding, an interview conducted entirely over a messaging app, a cheque sent to you to buy equipment, or a request for bank details before a contract exists.

A real employer will have a company number you can check on Companies House and will interview you by video.
