5 Ways to Get Manager Jobs at Tesco in 30 Days
Prepare for the assessment the way it is actually scored
Retail management assessment is competency-scored, which means an answer either contains the evidence or it does not. Vague answers score zero regardless of how good they sound.
Expect scenario questions on managing underperformance, handling a colleague who is repeatedly late, responding to a customer complaint that escalates, and prioritising when availability, staffing and a delivery all fail on the same shift.
Answer in the order the scorer records: what the situation was, what you personally decided, what you did, and what changed as a result. Say the outcome as a number wherever you can.
Prepare four examples in advance and reuse them: a difficult colleague conversation, a service recovery, a change you implemented, and a time you were wrong. Interviewers ask more or less the same four things in different clothing.
One practical detail: many stores hold assessments on the shop floor or in a back office during trading hours. Arrive knowing the store — walk it beforehand, note availability gaps on the fresh aisles, and mention what you saw. It is the single most effective thing a candidate can do.
